Hobbies For Heroes
By Bob Hester #36955

As many of you are aware, IPMS/USA is supporting a nationwide effort to provide Hobby Kits and Supplies to our men serving overseas. To date, over fifteen IPMS Chapters and individuals have made contributions. Such contributions help our guys make it through the occasional "down time" and provide some much-needed relaxation and diversion from their duties. In addition, it serves to remind them that there ARE people back home who are willing to support them in whatever way they can.

Read about more about it via the link to "Supporting The Troops"
on the IPMS/USA Home Page at:
www.ipmsusa.org

We'd like to see New Jersey IPMS added to the list, and to that end, the Membership has voted to ship kits and materials to BOTH participating units - the "Baghdad Hobby Club" in Iraq, and the members of SFOR-15, currently serving in Bosnia.

We're asking each member to bring a kit or two (or more!), some paint, brushes, glue, or whatever - on the night of our annual "Barbecue" Meeting, September 10. We'll also be taking a Group Photo that night, including the contributors and their donations, which will be included with our entry on the IPMS/USA National Website. These materials will be boxed up and shipped to both participating military units the following week.

Due to customs restrictions, not all materials are acceptable for shipment.

Recommended Items include:

  • Kits - Any type, any scale

  • Detail Sets, resin bits

  • Decal Sheets

  • Paint & Thinner - Acrylic only (no spray cans, please)

  • Paint Brushes

  • Decal Set

  • Future (of course!)

  • Sandpaper/Sanding Sticks (fine, medium, coarse)

  • Glue - C/A or epoxy (no styrene "tube glue")

  • Hobby Magazines - Your old issues of FineScale, SAM, etc.

  • Tools - Sprue cutters, hobby knives/blades, fine pliers, etc.

  • Any equipment you can spare: Air brushes, MotoTools, etc.

Anything you can put in will be deeply appreciated. Any questions regarding materials or how to contribute can be directed to Bob Hester at: webmaster@ipmsusa.org

While you're thinking about what to contribute, be sure to check out the excellent photos of one of SFOR-15's AH-64 Apache Helicopters sent to IPMS/USA by the Bosnia contact, CWO Sean Hogan.

Thanks in advance for your participation!
